Dura A. Smith was born in Texas and grew up in Tipton, Oklahoma.  He studied with Bruce Goff at OU and was Goff’s teaching assistant in 1948 before graduating the following year.  Ultimately, he made his home in Enid, where he designed some of that city’s most innovative and exciting modern buildings.  Sadly, at the height of his career, Smith died in 1968 after his car hit a train that was passing through town.
