A Friend Remembers Dean Bryant Vollendorf on His Birthday
Recently, I spent a remarkable and extremely enlightening afternoon chatting with architect Gary McCowan about his experiences at OU during the architecture school’s “golden years,” his incredibly varied and fascinating career, and his deep and lifelong friendship with his mentor and best pal, Dean Bryant Vollendorf, who sadly died in 2008. Today would have been Vollendorf’s 86th birthday and to celebrate, Gary has kindly allowed me to publish a few words he wrote about his friend in the days following his death — they will surely move you and make you wish you had the chance to know Vollendorf and camp a few nights on his famous green sofa.
