On the Market: A Time Capsule Treasure in Wildewood
text and photos by Lynne Rostochil
It’s not very often that a true, untouched mid-century time capsule comes on the market, but a one-owner, very well laid out home is for sale now that will certainly tick a lot of “dream home” boxes for many a Squadder. Located in the hilly Wildewood addition in NE OKC, the over 3,800 sf home was for sale then leased out last year, but now it’s back on the market and is awaiting a new owner who will appreciate all of its MCM goodness … and there’s plenty to be found, I promise! In fact, the second you walk in the door, you’re greeted by this Brutalist beauty of an entry light fixture…
… that guides you to the big jaw dropper of the house, a rounded living area that, I swear, is the size of a small house — it measures a whopping 22×35′ according to the home’s MLS listing:
I love the giant windows that line the back wall and frame the fireplace…
… and this built-in that can easily accommodate any book-lover’s library:
Perhaps my favorite decorative touch are two orange and white panels standing guard over this enormous room — how sexy cool is this?
From the entry and living room, follow the terrazzo tile floor — yes, there’s terrazzo…
… — into the largest breakfast room/bar area I’ve ever seen:
This generous and very flexible space could easily be a casual eating area or a formal dining room (but there’s already one of those off the other end of the kitchen):
The breakfast room opens directly to the kitchen, which could be a real stunner with a little love:
Off of the kitchen is a small office or studio space with a private entrance to the back patio:
The four bedrooms are located on the opposite side of the living room. One is especially cute with built-in twin beds and storage lining the back wall:
Two bedrooms share this sweet Jack and Jill setup, complete with blue sinks and delicious flower power wallpaper:
That wallpaper alone is reason to buy this house!
A third bedroom, with its own bath, is the size of most people’s dream master:
Remember when I said that this house was very well laid out? Well, here’s where you’ll see what I mean. While most designers (then and even now) inexplicably place laundry rooms near the kitchen, the genius who designed this charmer put it where all such rooms need to go — by the bedrooms:
For those of you who, like me, have to lug laundry from one end of the house to another, you know what a truly sexy feature this is! So, not only is this home beautiful, but it’s also extremely practical. Now that we’ve seen a little practical, let’s get back to beautiful. Down the hall from the laundry room is a giant master bedroom, and I really mean GIANT:
My photo does not do this space justice. Just trust me when I say that this 15 x 23′ master can easily fit the largest of beds and still have plenty of room left over for all kinds of other furnishings. To the left (out of sight in this photo) is an entrance onto the back patio, and the doorway to the right leads to a pretty fantastic master bathroom that is impressive even by today’s McMansion standards. His and her closets (here’s the two-room hers)…
…flank the room, which also contains dual vanities and a charming and very inviting pink tub in the heart of the room:
The charm and attention to detail continues out back, where a large patio looks out over a great-sized yard:
Did you notice that red brick fence? It goes around the perimeter of the entire backyard:
Wow, that’s a passel of bricks!
To say that this meandering ranch has a lot of potential is a vast understatement, and the best part is that it’s listed for $259,000 — yeah, you’ve got that right, $259,000 for over 3,800 sf of glorious mid-century goodness in one of the prettiest neighborhoods in the city!!
