On the Market: A Pretty in Pink Fixer Upper
text by Lynne Rostochil, photos by Tim Moses
A few days ago, I posted a photo on the Mod Squad Facebook page of a hilltop house in Forest Park that is for sale:
Although it looks like it has seen better days, I’ve always admired this pink-bricked beauty and was very excited when fellow Squadder, Jim, said he was going to tour it. Photographers Isaac Harper and Tim Moses went along for the ride and captured these great shots of the exterior:
Inside, the nearly 2,300 sf home doesn’t look quite as nice — in fact, this house is in dire need of some serious love. But, many cool MCM elements in this 1951 home make it well worth saving. Check out this beautiful flagstone fireplace and accent wall, for example:
Love that wood paneling and the clerestory windows in this room, too:
But, this bedroom — ooof, it’s not pretty:
This bathroom is equally as bad, as you can tell from Isaac’s dismayed expression:
That’s pretty horrific, indeed. I don’t know what the rest of the four bedroom, three bath house looks like, but I do know that the home is going for the bargain basement price of $60,000. As with most of the homes in gorgeous Forest Park, this house sits on a huge lot (a little over an acre), which makes the asking price even more appealing.
I really hope that someone sees potential in this home and decides to work to save it rather than demolish it and build an ugly monstrosity on the site. Maybe you’re that determined person….
The home is for sale by owner. To tour it or get more information, call him at 818 9331 or 232 0151.
