Developer A.G. Meyers hired Hudgins Thompson & Ball to design a commercial center near a residential neighborhood he was building in the northeast part of town.  Completed in 1951, the Park Estates Shopping Center served both the neighborhood and visitors to nearby Springlake Amusement Park.  Although it is mostly empty now, Park Estates is one of the few vintage shopping centers to maintain its original design.
